Fine Homebuilding Magazine is one of the most innovative and helpful periodicals to deal with the construction and/or re-decoration involved in fixing up a new and/ or old house. If you are planning any type of home improvement or you love playing around with items in your house, it’s a great idea to subscribe to this breath of fresh air type of magazine.
If you use an online magazine service or even if you pull out one of the cards that ordinarily flies out when you turn a page, it almost guarantees that you will never miss another issue . Oh, it helps also to subscribe to avoid paying those extremely high retail prices. You can subscribe to Fine Homebuilding for just $37.95 for 8 issues (that is a whole year by the way).
I was reviewing some of the issues that we had collected over the years and was relatively surprised with how this magazine obviously wants the customer or home owner to come out on top regarding home improvements. A spouse of one of our employees is the type of person that likes to keep things up to date and in clear working order in her home. While going through some recent articles in Fine Homebuilding Magazine, she realized that there were still things that could be vastly improved to make her house look as beautiful and carefully constructed as it was when the house was first built.
She has kept us up to date with the ideas that she has pulled from recent and back issues. For example, she suggested that we use some more vinyl sliding since some of the original sliding had badly aged. The copy of the magazine showed us the fastest method of improving this part of the house and also showed us detailed instructions as to how to fix the sliding as accurately and professionally as possible.
I’m not going to pretend to say that taking care of a home is a piece of cake. Nor will i ever forget the amount of wasted time that I had spent tinkering on things around the house without using Fine Homebuilding Magazine as my helper in improving the conditions in my present home. That mistake will never happen again because now I’ve got professional advice on my doorstep eight times a year!
I’ve written this article on home improvement because I just want people out there in the world to know that this publication has immensely helped me out like no other guide ever has in improving the look and feel of my own home. Now my wife has even stopped nagging me about the smallest things since I finally took her advice to use this popular and incredible publication as an educational tool from this moment forward!
You can find Fine Homebuilding magazine in your public library. You can even find this in a waiting room of a home improvement or real estate agent type of office. Recently my husband and I moved into our dream home. It was exciting just to get into it. It was absolutely perfect. Our new home had the most lovely fireplace and high vaulted ceilings. It was a dream come true. The only thing wrong was the yard– it was so bare and needed help.
I may not be much of a gardener, but I really wanted to create a landscape that would be just as beautiful as the inside of the gorgeous house. A friend suggested dwarf fruit trees. I shrugged at her and said I had no idea what in the world that was.
She showed me a picture online of the cutest little apple trees you could ever imagine, and I instantly loved the idea. After doing some research, I found that they didn’t need very much maintenace apart from something for support. I was excited now. Dwarf fruit trees are easier to protect from things like frost and birds than the larger kinds of fruit trees, and they don’t need much pruning.
My husband and I got to work after we planned the layout of the trees and picked up a bunch of different varieties. Before too long, we had planted them behind the lower plants in my planned garden. They were in a nice little row, and I had spaced them approximately 18 inches apart. They were held in place by stakes.
After that, we planted some lower standing plants and flowers. Now when I have guests stop by my home, they are treated to the sight of cute little fruit trees full of bright fruit and gorgeous color– not to mention my other cheery flowers. I’m in love with those dwarf fruit trees, and I’m so glad my friend gave me the suggestion!

Outdoor storage sheds are becoming an essential part to being a homeowner. Most homeowners fall into the trend of hoarding in today’s society. People are keeping more and more stuff that is unnecessary and that stuff starts to find its way into their garages and pushes their cars into their driveways.
They say less than 50% of garages actually hold the amount of cars that they were designed to hold. That is because of the yard and landscaping tools that begin to consume the garages and their owner’s parking spaces.
Homeowners nationwide have discovered outdoor storage sheds as a viable option to supplement the storage space afforded by garages. To be sure, the outdoor storage sheds, apart from being useful, are available in a variety of price ranges, and in a myriad of sizes and designs.
Garden Sheds are sheds that are used beyond the primary stage. These are used to house gardening utensils and chemicals. They are typically smaller sheds and thus can be made of different materials. A resin storage shed is one of them and are becoming very popular in the garden-variety sheds. This is because of the fact that they are lightweight, resistant to the weather, and the look very attractive.
Resin sheds are not used in larger sheds because they are typically preformed and cannot be taken apart for shipping. This means that the material is mostly limited to smaller sheds that are portable enough to purchase and install in your backyard.
The larger sheds are usually built from either wood or metal. There are advantages to both. Wooden sheds are typically cheaper and better insulated from the elements. Metal sheds tend to be more expensive but are comparatively superior at holding in heat or cold from the inside than wooden sheds. The less common resin shed is typically more expensive, but will not have to be replaced or repaired as frequently as wooden or metal sheds of the same size. This makes them especially attractive in this segment.
Outdoor storage sheds are becoming more and more popular in today’s society. This is primarily due to the fact that the sheds are essential to many home owners whose garages are already over populated with storing things that they are not even able to park in their garages. The garden sheds are a great utility for people that frequently tend to a garden. This is because all their tools and products are all readily available and protected from the elements. The resin storage sheds make a great choice for people looking to purchase garden type storage sheds.

With all the gadgets, chemicals, and doo-dads on television and in the cleaning aisle at the store, cleaning can get overwhelming. But if you really want to learn how to clean anything, here are some basic tools you should have. Remember, our great-grandmothers didn’t have any of these modern “necessities,” and most of their homes were cleaner than ours!
Chemicals – Keeping a few basic chemicals and liquids on hand will help you clean just about anything. First one we’ll start with is ammonia. Ammonia is a great tool to use in solutions where you want clarity. If you want to mop floors, wipe stainless steel, and sine up glass and windows, ammonia is wonderful mixed in wonder.
To polish up some dull items and get them shining again, you’ll want lemon juice. This acidic liquid is good for the job. To kill mildew and mold, as well as to lift stains from white objects, bleach is an absolute necessity.
But remember, you must always remember that bleach and ammonia must be kept separate! Don’t ever mix the two, because the fumes from the result will be deadly! Don’t play around with them. Cream of tartar and salt, which you probably have in your spice cabinet, are helpful for some cleaning challenges as well. If you really want to know how to clean anything, those are all the things you need.
Large tools – A good broom and dust pan, a dust mop or Swiffer, and probably a vacuum. All three are considered necessities in many households, depending on the types of floors.
If you have tile or linoleum flooring, you may be one of many people who prefer the bucket and mop. For removing the dust from ceiling fan blades and the cobwebs from ceiling corners, a long-handled duster will do the trick.
Small tools – Rags, sponges, and two microfiber cloths are the staples for your small cleaning tools. You can make your own rags from worn out men’s undershirts and old cloth diapers. Sponges should be replaced on a regular basis, as they can hold germs. Microfiber cloths come in two varieties.
The first one is used for general household dusting and cleaning. It’s nubby or napped in texture. The second is smooth, meant for delicate surfaces like electronic screens. If you don’t like the idea of touching filthy things with your bare hands or damaging your skin with chemicals, wear rubber gloves. When it comes to figuring out how to clean anything, many people consider them a necessity!

The working class is the largest group of people in today’s society. The growing private sector has experienced a tremendous amount of job creation worldwide. People have discovered they must be mobile to meet the demands of business. Travel is a common function of CEO’s and business manager’s working duties.
Due to this the subject of “home security” has attracted a lot of debates and discussions. You would not want to leave your house without proper security and come back to see that it has been burglarized, isn’t it? Scientists, since decades, have been inventing one product after another in order to find a breakthrough in home-security.
Every new technology will have some weak point that burglars will exploit, so you cannot always depend on technology. Today there are many easy to install locks on the market, that can save your home from being burglarized. At the present time, the most vital of these locks is probably the deadbolt.
What exactly is a dead bolt? In simple words, it is a part of a lock which is withdrawn using a key. You would be surprised to know that it takes the efforts of more than fifteen people to break a normal “door deadbolt” lock. There are different types of dead-bolts available today. The more the number of cylinders in a dead-bolt, the more would be its strength.
An affordable option for avoiding home invasion and theft is a door deadbolt lock. There are a variety of expensive gadgets and hi-tech systems available for purchase. Most of these systems could cost you as much as a few thousand dollars but a door deadbolt would cost just a small fraction of that.
You can opt for a “double deadbolt” door lock if you want more reliability and strength. When a burglar would find a locked door, the first thing that he would do is to kick the door in order to break it. However, if that door has a “double deadbolt” lock, then the burglar would never be able to break in.
Locked doors do not necessarily result in adequate security. In fact, steel locks and more expensive locks are less secure than cheaply made locks. Because cheap locks are less accurately machined, they offer more security against bumping. This security glitch in traditional tumbler locks was discovered in the 1970s, when Danish locksmiths discovered that certain keys could “bump” open conventional locks. For this reason, premium deadbolt door lockss were developed that provide protection against these unconventional keys. Deadbolt door lock security can be achieved with a special security device for only a few dollars through most trained locksmiths.

If you want to extend the life of your tree and encourage it to grow better fruit, you have to prune it. Pruning fruit trees is the thing to do, because that allows sunlight to reach all areas of the tree. Swearing that I wouldn’t call someone to do the job for me, I armed myself with my best sewing scissors and a ladder. I succeeded in opening the ladder and pinching my thumb in about 30 minutes. Then I climbed up this thing and had an idea of what Jack felt like when he climbed the beanstalk.
I realized I knew nothing about pruning fruit trees as soon as I reached the first limb, but I decided it couldn’t be that difficult. After attempting to cut one of the smaller limbs from my tree, it dawned upon me that scissors weren’t going to get the job done. So I borrowed my husband’s chain saw.
It had to be more effective than scissors, after all. Except I didn’t anticipate how loud it would be! It startled me. I threw it on the ground and toppled backwards off the ladder. Luckily, we have soft grass. Cursing that stupid chain saw, I went back up the ladder with it, and started it again. This time I was prepared.
I tried to cut that same small limb again. Apparently, chainsaws are really sharp as well. I succeeded in taking out six limbs and cut halfway into another one, entirely by accident. About 1/4th of my tree was lying on the ground now. My precious tree! If I wasn’t ticked off before, I sure was now. But I wasn’t about to give up, not even after one of the ravaged limbs struck my forehead and left a big scratch.
Grabbing the hedge shears, I started climbing the tree itself. After all, how hard can pruning fruit trees be? As I was going up, I kicked over the ladder by accident.
I was absolutely fuming as I waited until my husband found me in that bleeping fruit tree. I was bleeding from the head and had dirt all over my butt. I walked back to the house as my husband laughed, but as I did I gave that tree a withering look and muttering, “Until next year!”
